In the wake of Business Summit for HR (3rd October 2019) we invited our guest speakers to share their thoughts on the world of work, their role as community influencers and their vision for learning and technology. It resulted in a rich conversation with valuable insights, that you can read all about below.
What is the most important topic in the field of work right now, in your opinion?
Mihai Zant: I believe that meaning at work is one of the most important topics. Which translate into missions that people can adhere to, whith engagement and grit. This relates also to communities like organisations.
Cristina Tirulnic: I think a poignant topic nowadays is a growing gap between generations – closer generations (35 to 20-25) already. Values that we have are changing and it is an acute concern of younger managers.
Carmen Agapi: I think there are many important topics in the field of work but generally and in our business it must be how you innovate fast enough, how you help customers take the digital journey while taking the people along with you. I think the blend of people and technology (not versus 😀 ) is the most important topic be it in business, be it in HR.
Felix Bailer: Individual topics are naturally important but without a broader picture of desired outcome, we’ll continue to get pulled into reactive/current needs… fire fighting model.
What I argue is that we spend time “Connecting the dots” allowing everyone involved to understand what is the outcome we aim to reach and the individual roles to get there… that will translate to different topics and development for the engaged individuals.
Adrian Dinca: We live in a time where self-awareness is the KEY to everything. A time when "walk the talk" becomes the only choice, when we get real or get out. Leading Transformation for YOURSELF is the most important topic in this period.
2. What is your vision for learning and technology?
Mihai Zant: I believe learning should be more experiential and autonomous. The information is there, you just need enough context, focus, help on how to choose (coaches and mentors) and how to maintain discipline.
Cristina Tirulnic: Technology is so useful but I believe at some point could become a threat to humanity if we do not gauge it to our benefits and lose control of what is going on with this steep progress. I also believe that out only chance of salvation as humans is to learn more voraciously as ever.
Carmen Agapi: Learning and technology must coexist, for various reasons, and I think the main one is the versatility and accessibility of learning, but we must find the proper potion of getting the human touch and experience and people connection in the technology for learning.
Adrian Dinca: We have coffee vending machines for years and we still enjoy hand-made coffee. Learning will never be 100% digital, Coursera can’t replace everything. But it can replace 90% of what’s happening these days. Traditional class-room “Downloads” will be a matter of the past for the modern organizations. Learning will be customized and mostly done in highly collaborative environments, with focus on the individual needs.
